Netherlands in top three best payers in the world

Rotterdam, June 21, 2021 - In the second half of 2020, the year in which the corona crisis broke out, more Dutch companies paid their bills on time than in the last half of 2019. For example, in the second half of 2020, 75 percent of Dutch companies paid their bills within the stipulated period, compared to 69.2 percent in the second half of 2019. This represents an increase of 5.8 percent. This is evident from the semi-annual Payment Study conducted by business data specialist Altares Dun & Bradstreet, in collaboration with global partners.

Companies pay better than in early 2020

The Netherlands is the only country in Europe with this significant growth in payment speed. No other country experienced higher growth, only Finland (+4.9%) comes close. Globally, the Netherlands is among the top three best paying countries in 2020. Only Danish and Polish companies paid their bills better, with 87 and 76 percent of companies based there paying on time, respectively. The worst payers were companies in Portugal (16%), Israel (16%) and Romania (13%).

Only the Netherlands has this growth between 2019 and 2020

David Verheecke, Managing Director Benelux and Group COO: "With The Payment Study with data until 31 December 2020, we have a good overview of how companies pay worldwide. We also see how major developments such as COVID-19 affect payment behavior worldwide. As can be seen, even in times of crisis, Dutch companies are doing much better than other companies worldwide."
